STANDARDS
OF TRAINING / PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATION
The
Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) was established in London in 1958 as a non-profit
professional organization, to define and maintain standards of teaching
practice; the first of 15 such affiliated societies worldwide. The
American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) was established in
1987.
All teaching
members of STAT (M.STAT) and AmSAT (M.AmSAT) have completed an authorized
three-year, 1600 hour full time training course and adhere to a published
code of conduct and ethics.
PATRICIA GALLUP, M.STAT, M.AmSAT
I am a certified teacher of the Alexander
Technique and hold teaching memberships in both STAT and AmSAT. Serving on
AmSAT’s Board of Directors since 2002, I am a past chair of the
organization.
I received my
professional qualification in 1998 from the Victoria Training Course for
the Alexander Technique in London, England, under the direction of
Shoshana Kaminitz.
A passionate interest in equestrian sports
provided my introduction to the Alexander Technique. I also have a solid
background in ergonomics gained from many years in the office furniture
industry. My primary practice is located in Grand Rapids. I also teach in
three other West Michigan locations: Manistee, Three Rivers, and Muskegon,
and in Goshen, Indiana.
